We believe that our arts initiative supports the arts and the advance of positive social change. Composer Leonard Bernstein wrote, “It is the artists of the world, the feelers and the thinkers, who will ultimately save us; who can articulate, educate, defy, insist, sing and shout the big dreams.” By raising awareness through varied artistic disciplines as well as the humanities, coupled with themes that examine the pressing issues of our world, we hope to foster civil dialogue and precipitate positive action. Our Mission is to encourage, support and produce artists’ work, new and published, while exploring the role of the artist in society through an annual event which examines the path of the artist through specific disciplines and themes while raising the public’s awareness of both the artist and the theme. Each year beginning in April, 2011 The Artist’s Path will hold an eleven day event calling for new works in a specific artistic discipline that is paired with a specific theme. The call for New Works will go out to adult artists in Arizona and in ensuing years the call will extend to the nation and then be sent out internationally. Also there will be a division of the event for secondary students in Yavapai County Arizona, a designated rural area in the state. In addition established works reflecting the year’s theme will be produced for the public. The Playwright’s Response to Conflict and Social Crisis is the pairing for 2011. The Call for New Plays has already gone out to Arizona playwrights and secondary students of our county (Please visit www.theartistspath.org ). With our Founding partners, Prescott College and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, we will produce for the public staged readings of juried new plays and three published plays--Golda’s Balcony (based on the life of Golda Meir), The Guys, (based on the events of 9/11) and Seven, a play exploring the lives of seven women activist/leaders from Cambodia to Northern Ireland. Classes for Secondary Students in playwriting and acting will take place on the two Saturdays. Visit our website for details at www.theartistspath.org.
